Coming out of the pandemic in spring 2022, The Martin Agency sought to expand the ways in which its building might be used: as a venue for community events, employee meetups, continued learning, and more. The agency's location, in the Shockoe Bottom neighborhood of Richmond, Virginia, inspired the name “Shockoe House.”
As Shockoe House is (physically) quite literally the Martin Agency, I imagined the logo as existing within the footprint of the agency's monogram. Flipping the middle strokes of the “M” created a peak resembling a rooftop, thereby grounding the identity as a physical structure. The logo's versatility—it both tiles nicely and can serve as a container for content—is matched by its bold simplicity.
