Gala started as a month-long practice of creating a letter a day. I was interested in working from a square-shouldered elliptical form, which quickly evolved into a full-blown reverse contrast font. While testing, one of the first phrases I typeset was “gala flag;” the name just stuck. Gala brings an irreverent character and a sort of charming clumsiness to text.
