While the common perception of Los Angeles is of a sprawling, flat expanse devoid of history, there are little reminders of its previous lives all over the city. One such relic of an earlier age is the collection of staircases that trace the hillsides of my former neighborhood of Echo Park. This project catalogs ten of the more than thirty staircases in the area. By presenting the view from the bottom and the view from the top on facing pages, the reader can compare perspectives while gaining a small sense of both the physical distance and passage of time between the two elevations.
